LAHORE - Plains of the country remained in the grip of muggy weather on Wednesday, causing people to sweat profusely.  People are likely to get relief from the prevailing harsh weather conditions as experts have forecast scattered thundershowers for parts of the country from Thursday night to Saturday.  Weather remained hot and humid in most parts of the country. However, rain-thundershower occurred at isolated places in upper Khyber PK, Rawalpindi, Lahore divisions and Kashmir.  Dalbandin and Nokkundi remained hottest places in the country where mercury rose as high as 46 degree Celsius. Maximum temperature in Sibbi and Noorpur Thal was recorded 43 C, D G Khan, Bhakkar, Turbat and Bahawalnagar 42 C.
In Lahore, maximum and minimum temperature was recorded 38 C and 28 C respectively. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded 60 per cent. People avoided unnecessarily coming out, decreasing traffic on otherwise busy roads at noon and in the afternoon. Lahore Canal, as usual, attracted a large number of people including women and children. Not only youth but also elderly people were seen bathing in the Lahore Canal. At certain places, even women were seen beating the heat by taking a dip in the mud coloured canal water.
According to the experts, seasonal low lies over north Baluchistan and its adjoining areas. Weak monsoon currents are penetrating upper parts of the country and Kashmir. Tuesday’s depression over North Orissa and adjoining Jharkhand has moved west-northwestward on Wednesday lies over north of Madhya Pardesh and its neighborhood. This weather system is likely to move west-northwesterly direction during next 24 hours and will weaken into well marked low pressure during next 36-48 hours.   The meteorological department has forecast rain-thundershower associated with gusty winds at scattered places in upper Khyber PK (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat divisions), Islamabad, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha and Faisalabad divisions), Sindh (Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Karachi divisions) and Kashmir and at isolated places in Mardan, Bannu, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal and Kalat divisions during the next couple of days.
On Wednesday, Jhelum received 27 mm rain, Parachinar 26 mm, Malamjaba 17 mm, Kohat 11 mm, Lahore 09 mm, Dir and Kotli 08 mm each, Balakot 07 mm, Pattan 05 mm, Mangla 04 mm, Gujrat 02 mm, Kalam and Muzaffarabad 01 mm each.
