LAHORE – Most parts of the country including the City received rainfall of varying intensities on Friday, increasing chill in weather by decreasing temperature during the daytime. The experts have forecast more rains during the next couple of days.
Continuously blowing winds, overcast conditions and first winter rain in Lahore, though light, decreased the daytime temperature by 5.8 degree Celsius, making the weather chilly. Lahore received 04 mm rain. The Lahorites preferred to stay indoors to save themselves from harsh weather conditions, reducing traffic on otherwise busy arteries and rush at major business centres and markets.
The rains added to the woes of motorists and pedestrians, especially on roads with big potholes. Inundated rainwater on roadsides and slippery conditions caused massive traffic jams on important arteries including The Mall, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road and Shareey Fatima Jinnah till the evening.
On Friday, maximum and minimum temperature in the City was recorded 14.2 C and 3.3 C respectively. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded 77 per cent which increased to 94 per cent in the evening.
According to the experts, a westerly wave persists over upper parts of the country.
Local meteorological department has forecast partly cloudy weather with chances of more rains for the City during the next 24 hours. Met office has forecast rains with snowfall over the hills at scattered places of Gilgit-Balistan and Kashmir and Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Lahore divisions. Mainly dry weather has been predicted for the remaining parts of the country. On Friday, Dir received 35 mm rain, Saidu Sharif and Kotli 22 mm each, Peshawar 19 mm, Risalpur 13 mm, Joharabad 11 mm, Malamjabba 10 mm, Faisalabad and Sargodha received traces of rain.
