LAHORE – Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a teenage boy for threatening an industrialist over the phone to extort Rs30 million. The businessman, however, had to pay Rs1 million to the police instead as a ‘reward’ for the arrest of the caller, well-placed sources said.
According to a police spokesman, Muhammad Khalid received phone calls from the accused who threatened him that he would kidnap his only son if he did not pay him Rs30 million. The Chuhng police had registered the case (FIR No 146/12 under section 25-D).
The concerned police said CCPO Ahmad Raza Tahir had taken a serious notice of the incident and had assigned CIA SP Captain (R) Liaquat Ali to arrest the culprit(s). The SP then constituted a special police team, which conducted a raided in the city of Haroonabad and arrested Zaim Zahid, the son of Muhammad Zahid.
According to the sources, the teenage accused had been working in the tycoon’s factory. On Tuesday, the businessman paid Rs1 million as a ‘reward’ to the CCPO at his office. Later the city police chief distributed the cash among the police team. Further investigations are underway.
ASI booked: An ASI was booked on charges of sexual harassment on Tuesday after a woman, alleged the cop attempted to rape her at her home, while he was there to record her statement.
Sources said the woman Nagina Begum (name changed) has alleged that an ASI Arshad Bajwa, working with the Ghaziabad investigation wing had come to her home to investigate another case she had registered earlier. “He started physically harassing me and later carried a full fledge rape attempt but my neighbour Farhat arrived at the time,” she told in her statement. According to her claim, she was a complainant of another case.
