LHC takes notice of donkey meat sale

Lahore - The Lahore High Court Complaint Cell on Thursday took notice of the sale of donkey’s meat as beef in Kasur district and sought report into the matter within a week.  The complaint cell also directed Kasur District & Sessions Judge to look into the matter and submit a detailed report regarding steps taken by police along with his own comments within a week.
The notice was taken on a press report which stated that a raiding team of Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) had recovered hundreds of kilograms of donkey meat and remains from a house being used by a gang for running the abominable business.
According to TMA officials, the raid was conducted on a tip-off by a team led by Assistant Commissioner Shahrukh Khan Niazi on an isolated structure near National Bank Chowk. They said when the raid was conducted the donkey meat was being prepared for supply to various sale points in the city.
The ringleader, George Masih, was arrested from the scene and handed over to police. According to officials, Masih told the raiding team that only fat was being extracted from dead donkeys for soap manufacturing.
The AC told media that the accused could not explain why the meat was chopped like ordinary beef available in the market and why the whole process was being done in a secret way at a deserted place.  “Even if we accept that accused was right, the use of dead animal’s fat in the soap-making was also illegal,” Niazi said, adding the police were investigating into the matter. A case was registered against the accused under Slaughter Act.
LHC ISSUES NOTICES
The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued notices to Federal government and Punjab government to submit reply on a petition challenging notification of appointment of Maryam Nawaz Sharif as Chairperson of Prime Minister Youth Programme.
Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan of the Lahore High Court was hearing the case filed by a lawyer petitioner Iqtidar Shah and sought reply within two weeks.
The petitioner said that original name of Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, was Maryam Safdar.
He said that the Federal government issued a notification for her appointment as Chairperson of Prime Minister Youth Programme. He said that the notification mentioned her as Maryam Nawaz Sharif and not as Maryam Safdar.
The petitioner argued that the nomination papers submitted by her also mentioned her as Maryam Safdar. He said the notification was issued on the directions of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and thus, the Prime Minister also concealed a fact and committed a crime by telling a lie.
The petitioner requested the court to take notice of this fact-concealing act and set aside the appointment notification of Maryam Nawaz Sharif as Chairperson of Prime Minister Youth Programme.
The court after hearing his initial arguments issued notices to Federal and Punjab government to submit reply within two weeks.
