Formula for PA standing committees evolved

LAHORE - Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal and Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah on Monday had a meeting at Speaker's chamber and approved a formula regarding representation of parliamentary parties in assembly's standing committees. Punjab Senior Minister Raja Riaz and Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly, Ch Zaheeruddin could not attend Monday's meeting; the former due to his engagement in Islamabad, and the latter for being abroad. The meeting decided to give representation to each parliamentary party according to its strength in Punjab Assembly. As per the formula evolved in the meeting, the Public Accounts Committee-I would comprise 13 assembly members, out of which, six would be taken from PML-N, four from PPP and three from PML-Q. A similar ratio of members from three parties would be maintained in Public Accounts Committee-II and the Privilege Committee, each comprising 13 members. For rest of 41 Standing Committees of different provincial departments, each comprising 10 members, five would be taken from PML-N, three from PPP and two from PML-Q. All heads of parliamentary parties in the assembly have been asked to send lists of their members for each committee to the assembly secretariat within one week so that standing committees could be constituted soon. It is to be noted that no separate representation has been given to the PML-Q forward bloc in Punjab Assembly, but the PML-N may nominate some of its members for these committees out of its own quota.
