PPP wants local polls on old delimitations

LAHORE - Pakistan People’s Party wants local government elections as per schedule and on basis of old delimited constituencies, Manzoor Wattoo said Tuesday, voicing concern the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz wanted to postpone polls for an indefinite period.
“Fearing a sure defeat in elections PML-N wants to postpone them for an indefinite period,” PPP’s central Punjab president told the media, after chairing a party meeting.   The top PPP leader said if PML-N was serious in holding elections, it should not wait for new delimitations as polls could also be held on basis of old ones.
Wattoo said PML-N parliamentarians were using the local bodies funds at their discretion, so they would never like elections to take place. He affirmed PPP was not in favour of any further delay in conduct of local polls.
To a question, Wattoo said Bilawal Zardari would be visiting Lahore in the near future and take important decisions about party’s organisational matters in Punjab.
