More parking plazas needed for smooth flow of traffic: CM

LAHORE Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed that a comprehensive traffic plan should be evolved within available resources for providing relief to the people of the provincial metropolis. He said construction of maximum parking plazas was of vital importance for streamlining the flow of traffic. He further directed that planning should be made for constructing parking plazas by identifying at least 12 sites in various areas of the City. He was presiding over a meeting regarding improvement of Ferozepur Road on Wednesday. Khawaja Ahmed Hassaan, Commissioner and District Coordination Officer Lahore, Director General LDA, MD Solid Waste Management and officers concerned were also present on the occasion. Taking strict notice of the cut on the Lahore Ring Road, the chief minister directed stern action against the official responsible for negligence in this regard. He also gave instructions for setting up of a committee headed by Khawaja Ahmed Hassaan for the construction of parking plazas, improvement of traffic flow and important roads of the City. The committee would submit its recommendations within seven days. The chief minister said the state-of-the-art Park & Ride project at Liberty Market was in the final stages of completion and would result in better parking facilities to the citizens. He said he had already issued instructions for the construction of parking plazas in different congested areas of the City as it would help ease the flow of traffic and provision of better transport facilities to the citizens. He said measures for the improvement of Ferozepur Road were continuing and 12 other roads of the City would also be made model roads. He directed that the committee headed by Khawaja Ahmed Hassaan should submit recommendations for the setting up of an authority for improving different roads and maintaining close coordination between different departments for this purpose.
