LAHORE - Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq has said that the PML-N government has set a record of price-hike of commodities during its one year rule.
In a statement here on Tuesday, he said that during one year period of the PML-N, the raise in the prices had been equal to five years of the PPP rule. He called for immediate withdrawal of the raise in gas, electricity charges in public interest. The JI chief condemned the government decision to withdraw Rs 150 billion subsidy on electricity, imposition of levy on gas and imposition of surcharge to recover Rs 240 billion.
He especially slated the government assurance to the IMF about privatisation of PIA by December 31 next.
This shows that actually the IMF is making decisions, he said, adding, that this was enemy’s agenda.
He said that raise in the electricity tariff for domestic, industrial and commercial use, and the raise the Motorway and National Highway toll tax would add to the miseries of the people.
He said that the people had voted the PML-N to power on its promises of controlling prices and national development.
However, he said the achievement of the PML-N government was in the opposite direction.
He said that raise in electricity tariff would create problems for all sections of the society besides leading to unemployment.
The JI chief said that the government had failed to control electricity thefts because the electricity thieves include influential people. However, the burden would fall on the poor in the shape of withdrawal of subsidy and higher tariff, he added.
