Mercury comes two degrees down but excessive outages raise alarm

LAHORE The City remained in the grip of heat wave on Wednesday with excessive load shedding adding to the woes and miseries of heat stricken Lahorites. The sizzling sun forced the Lahorites to stay indoors at noon, decreasing traffic on otherwise busy City arteries. Lahore canal as usual attracted a large number of people including women and children at noon and in the afternoon. Not only youth but also elderly people were seen beating the heat by taking a dip in the mud colour canal water. At certain places, even women were seen taking a bath in the canal. On Wednesday, maximum and minimum temperature in the City was recorded 41 degree Celsius (on Tuesday it was 43) and 28.4.5 C respectively. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded 57 percent which decreased to 31 percent in the evening. According to the experts, seasonal low lies over Balochistan and adjoining areas. Local meteorological department has forecast mainly hot and dry weather with chances of dust raising winds for the City during the next 24 hours. However, rains are expected at isolated places of Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.Staff Reporter
