LAHORE: Coalition for the Rights of Minorities (CRM) condemns the killing of Human Rights Commission Pakistan Advocate Rashid Rehman and demands immediate arrest of culprits.
In a joint statement, National Coordinator of CRM Sameena Imtiaz stressed the need for the protection and security of human right activists, especially those who are working with the minorities related issues in the country.
Rehman, who was also the coordinator for the Punjab office of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) had been facing the threats for pleading a blasphemy case. Amarnath Motumal, CRM partner and HRCP Councilor in Sindh, said: “No security was provided to our friend Rashid despite his written complaint not only to the police but also to the court and bar association concerned.” The CRM also demanded of the government to take serious steps to curb the extremist element from the society for a better pluralistic, socially cohesive and tolerant society.–PR
