Iqbal Day to be observed today

LAHORE - Iqbal Day marking the 132nd birthday of national poet Dr Allama Mohammad Iqbal will be celebrated on Monday (today) across the country with national fervour and enthusiasm. The government has declared holiday in the schools, colleges and universities, while there will be local holiday in the courts. Change of Guard would take place at the Mazar-e-Iqbal followed by floral wreath laying ceremony in the morning. Various literary, social and religious organisations will also lay floral wreaths at the mazar while Iqbal Day functions will be held at a number of places. In Lahore Nazria Pakistan Trust in collaboration with Tehreek-i-Pakistan Workers Trust will organise Iqbal Day function at 10:30am at Aiwan-e-Karkunan Tehreek-i-Pakistan. The NPT delegation led by its Chairman Majid Nizami will lay floral wreath at the Mazar-e-Iqbal and offer fateha. Qazi Hussain will be guest of honour at the function while Tehrik-e-Insaaf Chief Imran Khan, PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal, MNA Bushra Rehman, Allama Ahmad Ali Kasuri and Dr Akram Ikram Shah will address on the occasion. Iqbal Academy Pakistan will also organise Iqbal Day function at Aiwan-e-Iqbal Complex at 4:00pm, which will be presided over by Dr Javed Iqbal. While Dr Israr Ahmad, Prof Fateh Mohammad Malik, Iftikhar Arif, Zaid Hamid and others will address on the occasion. Bazm-e-Iqbal Allama Iqbal Medical College will organise a special sitting on Allama Iqbal Tuesday (tomorrow) at 10:00am, which will be presided over by Dr Israr Ahmad while Ayaz Amir and Prof Muzaffar Mirza will address the sitting. Markazi Majlis-e-Iqbal will also organise Iqbal Day function at Aiwan-e-Iqbal at 10:00am. Dr Javed Iqbal will preside the function, while Aitzaz Ahsan, Mujibur Rehman Shami, Prof Fateh Mohammad, Orya Maqbool Jan, Prof Humayun Ihsan, Attaul Haq Qasmi will address.
