The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday sought final date of the local bodies polls from the Punjab government till September 25.
The LHC Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial was hearing the case. During the proceedings, the petitioner's lawyer told the court that the Punjab government was intentionally delaying holding the local bodies elections in the province, adding that according to constitution and law, the LB polls should have been held in the province on this occasion.
The Punjab government's lawyer told the court that the government was serious to hold LB elections in the province. He said that bill was also approved in this regard.
He requested the court to not hear the case because the matter was in the Supreme Court.
On this the LHC chief justice said the Punjab government was employing delaying tactics for holding the LB elections. The court sought final date of the LB polls and adjourned the hearing till September 25.
