LAHORE - Chief Librarian Punjab Public Library Zaheer Ahmed Mir has demanded the Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to constitute a committee for investigating the misappropriation and embezzlement of funds in the Punjab Public Library committed by Secretary Higher Education Azhar Hussain Shamim. He expressed these views while addressing a press conference at Punjab Public Library Auditorium on Thursday. During the press conference, he claimed that the secretary wanted to use the library auditorium as his office but he did not allow him to do so. After his refusal, Azhar started creating hurdles in releasing the funds of the library. He requested Shahbaz Sharif to dismiss secretary higher education and suggested that the library should be run on the pattern of the Punjab Library Foundation with regular grant of Rs 100 million to ensure fulfilment of librarys requirements easily. He said the library was not being run according to the rules, as secretary education, also a chairman of the board of the governors of the library, had not convened the meeting of managing committee for the last six months. He demanded regular meetings after every three months as enshrined in the rules. Zaheer appealed to the Chief Justices for the Supreme Court of Pakistan and Lahore High Court for taking suo motu notice of the issue.
