LAHORE – Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Najam Sehti has redirected Wasa to adopt every possible measure for uninterrupted water supply to the citizens. He said that water should be supplied through tankers where it was unavailable besides ensuring operation of all tube-wells in the City.
The chief minister said this while presided over an emergent meeting to review the situation arising out of shortage of potable water in different areas of the City at Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Tuesday.
Sethi said water is a basic necessity and its shortage in any area will not be tolerated at all. He said provision of services is responsibility of the government institutions. The chief minister directed the finance secretary to ensure provision of necessary funds to Wasa.
The Wasa managing director briefing the meeting on the performance of Wasa, said 480 tube-wells were operating while generators have also been provided at tube-wells for the smooth supply of water to the citizens during power loadshedding.
He said power connections were required for 12 newly installed tube-wells while five more tube-wells will be completed by the end of May.
Separately, the Punjab cabinet reiterated the commitment to ensure implementation of the code of conduct devised by the chief election commission and not to allow anyone to infringe the same. Sethi presided over meeting which was attended by provincial ministers, chief secretary, IGP, secretary home, secretary law, secretary finance, other provincial secretaries and concerned authorities were present. The chief minister said informed about the steps taken to reduce the long hours of loadshedding in the province and appeal to the people to support the measures for energy conservation.
Sethi said all out steps would be taken to ensure peaceful conduct of the elections and such an atmosphere will be provided as would enable the voters to exercise their right of franchise in a free and fair manner.
He said that an affective security plan has been evolved for the peaceful and transparent holding of elections. He said that the implementation of the code of conduct devised by the Election Commission will be ensured and all out assistance will be extended to Election Commission for the holding of peaceful, fair and free elections.
