LAHORE - The stage is set for celebrating the Independence Day with national fervour in the provincial capital. In this connection, the main ceremony will be held at Hazoori Bagh, Badshahi Mosque, where Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif will hoist the national flag at the historical venue. DCO Sajjad Ahmed Bhutta held a meeting to review the arrangements being made to celebrate the Independence Day, which was attended by the officials of different departments. The meeting decided that the City District Government Lahore (CDGL) would organise folk dances depicting the culture of all the four provinces while it was also instructed to decorate the City and hoist national flags on buildings on main roads including The Mall, Gulberg Main Boulevard, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road and Canal Bank Road. The CDGL would also decorate all main crossings with banners and streamers carrying Quaid-e-Azams quotes and showing the cultural traits of various parts of the country. During the meeting, DCO sought the cooperation and participation of the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) and directed all authorities concerned to carry out the programme. He also directed the Solid Waste Management Department to keep the City clean and ensure timely waste disposal. He said a Civil Defence (CD) squad would present the guard of honour at the flag-hoisting ceremony that would be held at Hazoori Bagh. Electric sirens will ring for one minute in the whole City. All divisional offices of CD will also remain open on August 13 and 14 and the bomb disposal squad would remain on high alert, he added.
