LAHORE – Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated Arfa Karim Software Technology Park, at the Ferozpur Road, on Thursday. The IT Park will provide the state-of-the-art information technology centre to the people of Punjab.
Equipped with all modern IT facilities, the park has been named after Arfa Karim, the youngest IT wizard in the world who died at 16 last month. At the opening ceremony, Col (retd) Amjad Karim Randhawa, senior adviser Sardar Zulfiqar Khan Khosa, MNA Umar Suhail Zia Butt, MPA Zaeem Qadri, Zakia Shahnawaz, a team of Chinese IT experts and secretaries and officers of various government departments were present.
Addressing on the occasion, Chief Minister Shahbaz said that Arfa Karim was pride of the nation.
“This evening is dedicated to Arfa.” He said the country was full of talented people. “I can recall the occasion when I visited Arfa in the hospital. I was immensely impressed by her father’s courage to see Arfa fallen and fighting for life.”
Describing Arfa as the great daughter of the nation, he said the IT building, which is the tallest in the city, will realize her dreams. “She also excelled at that tender age through her poetry and vision,” he said.
The CM said the IT Park, now fully functional, also spoke of the friendship of Pakistan and China. He said after the building this tower, another Chinese company was soon launching Metro System in the city.
