LAHORE - After suicide attack at Police Lines in Islamabad, extraordinary security measures have been taken in and around all the police training schools, academies and other such institutes imparting training to the personnel of law enforcement agencies across the province. The main police academies and institutes include Police Training Centre Chuhng, Police Training College Sehala, Elite Police Training School Bedian Road, Punjab Constabulary (PC) Headquarter, Farooqabad, Police Lines Qilla Gujjar Singh and Qurban Lines, Lahore, Police Wireless Training School Bahawalpur, Police Training School, Faisalabad, Police Training School, Rawalpindi, Police Training School, Sargodha and Police Training School Multan. These centres train policemen not only to fight terrorism, but also instruct them to deal with any law and order situation besides enabling them to perform security duties for VIPs and VVIPs. These training schools also organise the initial training courses for police recruits, constables, drivers, as well as promotion courses for these police personnel. Employees of other departments like Prisons, Forest, and Civil Defence area are also trained at the police training schools. The number of police personnel has been doubled at the police training centres to thwart any terrorist attack. Pickets are put up around these police buildings to block free movement of the private people. Extra exit/entry points of the training centres have been closed with visitors and the police officials asked to use only main entry/exit point till further orders. New guidelines are issued to the police officials getting training in the institutes directing them to reduce their activities outside the buildings and spend their time maximum in the premises of the buildings and under tight security. They are also informed that only their close relatives would be allowed to meet them at the training centres. Heavy contingent of the police has been deployed in and around all the said training institutes and patrolling has been enhanced to block any terrorist activity. Trained and professional policemen have been deployed to check motorists and pedestrians on the roads leading to the police training institutes and academies. It is learnt that the private vehicles will not be allowed to enter in these training centres till further order. A time has been fixed for the people to visit the training schools for routine work. Entry will be allowed only after submitting original National Identity Card. As precautionary measures, the private contractors are directed to set up parking stands at least 100 yards away from the buildings of the police training institutes. Police officials also placed heavy cemented blocks on the roads leading to the training centres to slow down the speed of the vehicles heading towards the police buildings. The same precautionary measures were also taken at all the entry/exit points of the said training institutes with deployment of armed policemen. The security personnel were equipped with metal detectors and such other modern appliances for thorough search of the private vehicles and also the police vans before their entry into the premises of the police buildings. Policemen took positions at the rooftop of the police buildings putting them on high alert. A senior police officer at the CPO told The Nation following a wave of terrorism and suicide attack on the buildings of the law enforcement agencies, strict precautionary measures were being taken to provide protection to the lives of the police officials getting training at the police institutes. Seeking anonymity, he said that some police centres were imparting anti-terrorist and commando training to the police officials, like the Police Lines Qilla Gujjar Singh, Lahore where semi-commando training was being given to the police officials. Services of the said trained commandos were taken against the terrorists to foil their nefarious designs and to protect the lives of the VIP, VVIPs and important political figures.
