'Govt, civil society must work together for child rights'

LAHORE - Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has said that the government and civil society should join hands for the betterment of our future generation by solving the issue of vulnerable children. Addressing to a seminar titled 'Role of stakeholders to reduce the vulnerability of street children organised by 'Syban in collaboration with 'Sahil at a local hotel here on Wednesday, she said childrens issues were on the first priority of their government. She said media could play pivotal role in the dissemination of information about the rights of the children and responsibilities of the parents and society as well. On the occasion, senior journalist Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami said that growing population was the key problem for all issues of the children. He emphasised the need to control the population. He urged the government to introduce uniform syllabus and abolish the class difference in education. He said that government and civil society should realise their responsibilities towards the child rights. Iftikhar Mubarik of Sahil said that government should constitute a provincial task force to address the childrens issues so the issue could be controlled rapidly. Syban Ali Zaib Hussain representative while introducing their project said their organisation was providing medical and psychological treatment to the vulnerable youth and children at various localities of the city including Texali, General Bus Stand and Minar-e-Pakistan areas. Rao Khalil of Child Protection Bureau, Muhammad Hassan of CCO Ombudsman Punjab, Dr Naeem Zafar, Shamshad Qureshi and others also addressed on the occasion.
