Protests against US pastor's plan to burn Holy Quran

LAHORE - On the appeal of Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hasan, countrywide protests including Lahore were held on Friday against the US pastors despicable plan to burn the Holy Quran. Rallies were taken out at Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi and other big cities after the Jumatul Wida under the leadership of the JI. Speakers addressing the protestors condemned the Florida pastors plan and termed it a challenge to the entire Muslim world. Addressing the Juma congregation at Mansoora mosque, Syed Munawar Hasan said that apparently, the crisis had been averted but the point was how did the Christian pastor dare to announce such a plan. This was because the Western world knew that the Muslim rulers had no sense of honour. He said in such a situation, an emergency session of the parliament and provincial assemblies should have been called to adopt resolutions against such a plan. The peoples representatives should have held rallies on the issue or at least, some member of the PML-N and the JUI-F should have moved a resolution condemning such nefarious plan. The OIC should have convened an emergency meeting to prove its existence. He said the attitude of the Muslim rulers on the issue was the most condemnable. Syed Munawar Hasan said the holy Quran was present in the hearts of millions of the Muslims and it could not be wiped out by burning its copies. But this was an issue concerning the faith of the Muslims. He said the Muslims in the West had reacted with plans to distribute copies of the Holy Quran at a large scale. He said this was a good move but the proper way was to announce demonstrations at every road and corner in the West so that the world could realise the Muslims sentiments. He said if the Muslim living in the West were unable to protest on such sensitive matters, they should return to their home country. The JI secretary general Liaquat Baloch, addressing the rally at Masjid e Shohada, said that the Floridas pastor s plan had moved the Muslims all over the world, which forced the US government for its cancellation. Islam, he said, is the religion of peace. He specially thanked the Christian priests of the Punjab capital who raised their voice against the despicable move. Meanwhile, Jamiat Ullema Pakistan also protested against this unholy plan to burn Quran by American pastor. In a press statement Secretary General JUI Qari Zawar Bahadar while condemning the unholy plan said that in case of any such attempt to burning of Quran would be shocking for international peace. He said that it was a conspiracy of Americans against Islam because government even did not initiate any action against pastor and church administration as well. Further, All Pakistan Christen Movement, in a meeting, which also was attended by Sikh and Hindu leaders condemned the plan to burn Quran by American Pastor and demanded of the US government to take action against him.
