Clinical waste incineration plant to be installed

LAHORE  - Punjab Health Secretary Dr Ijaz Muneer on Wednesday said that the department was installing incineration plant in the suburb of Lahore with the collaboration of Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) for proper disposal of clinical waste.
Addressing the inaugural session of two-day workshop on Hospital Waste Management at Punjab Health Development Centre (PHDC), he said that the plant would be sufficient to cater the needs of hospitals in public as well as private sector.
Dr Ijaz Muneer hoped that the project would be completed in next fiscal year. He said that offers had been made through LWMC for installation of this plant. He said that government funds would not be spent on the installation of plant, however, the project would be awarded to the company giving lowest per kg rate for disposing off hospital waste. He lauded the services of PHDC for starting various capacity building programs for health managers. He said that the capacity and infrastructure of PHDC would be enhanced so that the institution could introduce new courses and training workshops for capacity building. He stressed the need of starting training and capacity building workshops on medical ethics.
University of Health Sciences Vice Chancellor Maj Gen (R) Dr Muhammad Aslam and CPSP Regional Director Prof Khalid Masood Gondal offered cooperation and technical assistance for teaching courses at PHDC.
Technical Advisor on Health Prof Syed Muhammad Owais said that proper disposal of toxic waste was essential for controlling diseases, stressing the importance of cleanliness.
