LAHORE - An agreement has been signed between the Punjab police and the Prosecution departments to speedup the process of investigations in order to bring the criminals to justice besides ensuring provision of speedy justice to the public at large.
A police spokesperson said on Friday that the aim of the agreement is to improve cooperation and coordination between the police and the prosecution departments. Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khan Baig and Punjab Prosecutor General Sadaqat Ali Khan signed a detailed SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) at the Central Police Office during a meeting on Friday.
The SOP underlines rules and regulations to enhance mutual cooperation between the police and the prosecution departments in the light of the legal framework in the Punjab province. The implementation of the SOP would not only help police improve its working but also it would revive the effectiveness of prosecution department for the benefit of the general public.
Under this SOP, the police would keep updated the prosecution department about the progress on every case and at every level while the prosecution department would also provide guidelines to the police on regular basis. Both the departments would remain in close contact at primary, middle, and top levels to exchange data besides regular monitoring of the cases.
As per the SOP, the District Public Prosecutor and Special Public Prosecutor would hold meetings on fortnightly basis in order to discuss and monitor the progress about the cases related proclaimed offenders, suspected persons, and investigations as well so that the criminal justice procedure could be advanced further.
On this occasion, IGP Punjab Khan Baig hoped that the agreement signed between the Punjab police and Prosecution department would add a new chapter of best working relationship in the history of both the departments.
