Man throws himself under train


LAHORE – A 24-year-old man ended his life by throwing himself under a Lahore-bound train near the Mian Mir Colony in Race Course police precincts Friday.
The deceased, later identified as Mahboob Ahmed, committed suicide after his parents scolded him over a domestic issue, according to the police. Manzoor Ahmed told the lawmen that his son exchanged harsh words with the family members and left the house in anger. The body was handed over to family.
ACCIDENT: A labourer was killed while another wounded critically when a rashly-driven car ran over them in the Old Anarkali area, police said Friday.
Resident of Swabi, Muhammad Rafique, and his friend Majid were on their way to the workplace on early Friday when they had the accident near GPO Crossing.
Eyewitnesses told the police that both the passersby were crossing the road when the car hit them. They were raced up to hospital where doctors pronounced Rafique dead. The condition of Majid was also reported to be critical. The police are investigating.
Electrocuted: A mechanic was electrocuted and his helper sustained burns in the Liaqatabad area. Source police said the deceased, identified as Salamat, and his helper were repairing a water pump when they suffered electric shocks. They were rushed to hospital where Salamat died. The condition of his helper is stated to be out of danger. Police have launched an investigation.
Fire: Goods and valuables worth tens of thousands of rupees were reduced to ashes when fire broke out in the basement of a plaza near the Abid Market on Friday.
Firefighters said that fire broke out because of short-circuiting. Firefighters rushed to the scene and extinguished fire after hectic efforts.
