2,700 cops to counter wheelie

LAHORE - The Lahore Traffic Police have unveiled a special campaign against  wheelie on Independence Day as more than 2,700 cops,  including 11 DSPs and 101 inspectors, would be deployed on the roads.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Sohail Chaudhry has directed all the deputy superintendents of police to take stern action against the violators. A police spokesman said vigilant traffic wardens have been deployed on Jail Road, Main Boulevard, Ferozepur Road, and Canal Road to control the deadly spot of one-wheeling.
While chairing a meeting with the officers and sector in-charges of the Cantonment, Ring Road, Gulberg and Defence, CTO Sohail Chaudhry warned the officers that if any complaint regarding one-wheeling was reported, the concerned officers would be held accountable. He further said he would himself visit the aforementioned places on the weekend and if any such incident was reported, the sector in-charge and beat in-charge would be taken to task.
The CTO has also ordered the police to impound the silencer-less motorcycles and a full-fledged crackdown should be launched against the one-wheelers.
