Lahore paper factory fire causes millions of rupees loss

Machinery, papers and raw material worth millions of rupees was burnt to ashes in a paper factory fire here in Lahore on Friday. Rescue sources said that fire caused by electric short circuit erupted in a paper factory located in Javed Nagar area of Shahdara at 5:00am. Hay, prepared papers and other inflammable raw material used in paper and card making helped the fire to spread rapidly. Fire tenders reached the spot and started rescue operation but due to widespread fire they had to face hardships after which fire brigades from other districts were also called in. The fire brigade personnel after six hours efforts brought the fire under control. But meantime prepared paper, cards, machinery and raw material worth millions of rupees were gutted. However no causality or injury was reported in the incident. The paper factory owner blamed that WAPDA was responsible for the incident but the officials rejected the blame saying it was the careless attitude which led to the incident. The victim of the fire incident has demanded the provincial government for compensation for his losses. He said that, not only his, but livelihood of hundreds of labourers was also attached with this factory.
