LAHORE - MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting of Ittehad Bainul Muslimeen Committee constituted by Punjab government for Eidul Azha and Muharramul Haram.
Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Auqaf and Religious Affairs Minister Syed Haroon Ahmad Sultan Bukhari, Inspector General of Police Punjab, Home Secretary Punjab, Commissioner Lahore, DCO Lahore, Additional Inspector General of Police (Special Branch), Additional Inspector General of Police (CTD) were also present on the occasion. A joint declaration was also issued by the Ulema of all schools of thought in the meeting.
According to the joint declaration, Ulema and religious figures will continue to play their basic and key role for national solidarity, stability of the country, sectarian harmony and maintenance of overall law and order.
They assured Punjab government that they are fully informed about the country’s defense and demands of national solidarity and will stand united with the nation in the time of need. Eidul Azha, Muharramul Harram and the present national and international situation demands that government circles should make contacts and coordination with all political and religious leaders more effective and do not show any leniency in taking them into confidence. By collective consultation and taking the people into confidence the nefarious designs of anti-state elements could be foiled.
According to the declaration, Ulema of all schools of thought have agreed to the fact that no Muslim should be humiliated and they will strictly adhere to the policy of “apnay maslak ko choro nahin dusron ke maslak to chairo nahin”.
The declaration further states that Ulema/Khutaba should adopt a moderate and positive attitude in their sermons to avoid sectarian violence. Furthermore, Islam teaches a lesson of tolerance even with non Muslims therefore Ulema should emphasize upon accommodation and tolerance and unity of ummah in their speeches.
They said that they consider terrorism and killing of innocent persons against Islam and strongly condemn it. They will refrain from such speeches and writings as could exploit any other sect.
