LAHORE – Dozens of Mayo Hospital doctors staged a demonstration at Hall Road on Wednesday evening to protest against misbehaviour of Additional Medical Superintendent Security Dr Tariq Ijaz with Young Doctors Association (YDA) General Secretary Dr Salman Kazmi, causing massive traffic jam at McLeod Road and adjoining arteries.
Highly charged doctors chanted slogans against Dr Tariq Ijaz, demanded probe and his immediate transfer from Mayo Hospital. They said future strategy would be devised if the said AMS was not suspended and transferred from Mayo Hospital within 24 hours.
Reportedly, Tariq ijaz called Dr Salman Kazmi in his office for a meeting. Tariq Ijaz asked him that why he was highlighting the issue of transfer of Prof Riaz Warriach. After exchange of harsh arguments, he physically assaulted Dr Kazmi and threatened him of dire consequences. Outsiders also pointed guns at Dr Kazmi.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) condemned Dr Tariq Ijaz for assaulting Dr Kazmi and pointing gun at him. The PMA office-bearers said presence of criminals of Gowalmandi in Mayo Hospital was intolerable. They demanded the Punjab chief minister to suspend the AMS and hold an impartial enquiry.
