LAHORE - The Punjab government is going to set up an Anti Corruption Department as a separate entity from the existing Anti Corruption Establishment department, and bring a new law that would replace the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947 and Anti Corruption Establishment Ordinance 1961.
As per the draft of purposed Punjab Anti Corruption Act 2013, there will be a separate secretary for the new department. The secretary will be a grade 20/21 officer from PAS/PMS/ PSP and the DG will be a grade 20 officer from the same services, The Nation has learnt.
The purpose of these measures is to eradicate corruption and corrupt practice and create a corruption free society by holding accountable all those accused of such practices. Sources told that a committee comprising Anti Corruption director general, Home secretary and others was constituted that recommended overhauling of the existing Anti Corruption Establishment department. But later another committee looked into the matter and it was decided to set up a separate department through Punjab Anti Corruption Act 2013.
