'Majority of party cadres rendered ineffective'

LAHORE - Majority of members of PPPs Punjab Executive Committee, which met here on Wednesday, was unanimous on the point that party cadres from top to bottom have been rendered ineffective due to their reduced say in party matters. According to sources, the PEC members expressed their serious concern over the situation, and observed that top party leadership should give due importance to all party organisations by involving them in decision making process. A member attending Wednesdays meeting said that it was pity that only MNAs and MPAs were taken into confidence on important issues, while no one bothered to consult organisations to take their opinion. Expressing his utter dismay over ineffectiveness of party cadres, a PEC member alleged that only a handful of Federal Ministers were calling the shots, which, he said, was highly unfair. One of the members complained that PM Gilani was only giving development funds to PML-Q MNAs at the cost of party legislators who were being ignored in this respect. Rana Aftab Ahmad Khan who was chairing the meeting endorsed the viewpoint of PEC members on the issue and vowed to take up the matter with party high ups soon. He said that he was himself perturbed over the situation. Rana was convinced that PPP Government at the Centre was not paying heed to problems being faced by party workers who were crying for government jobs to keep their body and soul together. The PEC decided that a meeting should be arranged with Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari to apprise him of the sorry state of affairs of party organisations. It was of the opinion that Government would become weak if party organisations were not made strong . The upcoming local election also came under discussion. The PEC recommended to the top party leadership that PPP should contest the coming polls independently without making any alliance with any party including the PML-N. The fear of losing election should not come in the way of maintaining a separate identity during the polls, it observed.
