LAHORE Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has announced that a state-of-the-art liver transplant and institute of urology to be established at the place of Zeenat Lab at Lawrence Road. He was presiding over a meeting here on Thursday, which was attended by Chairman Planning and Development, Secretary Finance and Commissioner Lahore were also present on the occasion. The CM said state land worth billions of rupees had been recovered in the campaign against encroachments, which included the land of the Zeenat Lab. He said there could be no better use of this high value piece of land than to utilise it for the service of ailing humanity. Therefore, he said, it has been decided to set up a centre for the treatment of liver and kidney diseases at this place. He also said people face great problems in the treatment of liver diseases and they also had to go abroad for liver transplant, which involved huge expenditure and was beyond the reach of the common man. He said that setting up of a modern liver transplant and urology centre in Lahore would result in the availability of the latest treatment facilities to the people, and patients not only from Punjab but all over the country would benefit from this facility. He directed Commissioner Lahore Division to evolve a project for the setting up of liver and kidney centre at the Lawrence Road so that work could be started as early as possible.
