LAHORE - A founding member of the PPP and former Federal Law Minister, SM Masood died of cardiac arrest here on Friday. He was 80.
He remained under treatment at Punjab Institute of Cardiology for over two weeks. Doctors allowed him to go back home after seeing signs of recovery a few days back. His condition deteriorated on Friday morning and was taken to the hospital again. But this time doctors could not save him as he breathed his last at noon.
Late S.M Masood is survived by a widow, two sons and a daughter. His funeral would be taken out from his Shadman-I residence-404 at 11 am on Saturday (today). His dead body would be taken to Gujrat for burial in his ancestral graveyard the same day.
S.M Masood was elected to the Punjab Assembly in 1973 as a result of a by-election and served as provincial law minister. He was elected MNA in 1977 and served as Federal Minister for Law in the cabinet of then Prime Minister, Z.A Bhutto. Later, he also represented Pakistan at the UNO. He was among hundreds of PPP men who served imprisonment during Zia’s Martial Law.
