Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that caretaker government would be formed on completion of tenure of the assemblies according to constitution and not on the demand of Mian Nawaz Sharif. He said the Swiss cases have been buried forever which is a victory of the stance of the PPP government.
Speaking at Meet the Press programme of Lahore Press Club on Friday, Kaira referred to demand of the PML-N president for immediate announcement of the caretaker government but pointed out that the government would be formed when the constitutional tenure of the assemblies was over. He said if there was no agreement between the prime minister and opposition leader on the caretaker prime minister, it would be decided by the parliamentary committee. If the committee also failed on a consensus name, the Election Commission would have the authority to decide.
The information minister said for the first time in the history of Pakistan, the president delegated his power to the parliament. He said President Asif Ali Zardari is neutral and no conspiracy would succeed against him.
He said in the past military leaders derailed the democracy but today army was supporting it.
He said contacts were made with Sharif brothers four times that the president wanted to visit Raiwind to express condolences over the death of Mian Abbas Sharif but they did not respond.
The information minister said Nawaz Sharif was supporter of democracy but Shahbaz Sharif was acting like a king. He was of the opinion that thinking of Shahbaz Sharif and Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was identical who do not want rapprochement. He said they need to learn lesson from the past.
Kaira said those making tall claims today fled after reaching agreement with Pervez Musharraf to save their lives and left the country under dictatorship.
He questioned the popularity of PML-N and said if it was so, why the party was entering into seat adjustments with those who cannot win union council seats.
To a question, the information minister said that constructive dialogue was going on with the PML-Q for seat adjustment as they want to reach a decision where they could win maximum seats in the elections.
He reiterated that the PPP would make South Punjab Province and elections would be held on time.
