Pak students to contest Chemistry Olympiad

KARACHI - Four Pakistani students will participate in the 46th International Chemistry Olympiad to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam from July 20 to 29.
The National Chemistry Talent Contest-10 2014 final camp will be starting from June 15 to July 19, 2014 at HEJ, Research Institute of Chemistry-International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences, Karachi University (ICCBS-KU) to prepare the contestants. On the other hand, the NCTC-11, 2014 (First Camp) will also be held at ICCBS-KU from June 16 to 21, 2014. In this first camp, the talent will be selected from 55 contestants belonging to all parts of the country for the next International Chemistry Olympiad-47.
Speaking at a meeting held at the ICCBS, National Chemistry Talent Contest Coordinator Prof Dr Khalid M Khan said that four students had been selected for the upcoming Olympiad. The selected students include: Maqbool Khalid of Islamabad Model College for Boys, I-8/3, Islamabad; Maheen Kausar of Generation School, South Avenue Site Karachi; Sabih Ahmad of the Fahims Schools System, Gulshan-E-Iqbal Karachi; and Muhammad Shujaat Mirza of Roots College International Dha-1 Campus Islamabad.
He also briefed that students aging less than 18 years would be included in the contest and colleges might nominate up to five of their best student to contest in this discipline. ”It is expected that college will nominate five students in chemistry who have secured more than 90 per cent marks in the relevant subject,” he said.
The event will be comprised on different educational and leisure activities, including presentations, written tests, chemistry quiz, practical activities, lectures on different chemical issues, and visits to PIA Planetarium and Quaid’s Mausoleum.
