LAHORE – Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salaman Rafique inaugurated the first cleft combined clinic at Mayo Hospital on Friday.
The clinic established in the Plastic Surgery Department of Mayo Hospital aims at curing cleft lips and palate clefts among children. Speaking on the occasion, Salman said the patients of this disease would be provided free-of-cost facilities, under one roof.
King Edward Medical University Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Asad Aslam Khan, MS Dr Zahid Pervaiz, Prof of Plastic Surgery Dr. Fareed Ahmed Khan, Prof Haroon from the USA and other senior doctors were also present on the occasion.
Prof Fareed said on the occasion that the cleft lips and cleft palate disease were found among the children of cousin marriage parents, which is why Pakistan is ranked fourth in the world with regard to birth of such children.
He said Mayo Hospital already had facilities for cleft lips and palate clefts disease. Doctors of Plastic Surgery Ward would sit daily in Cleft Clinic, from Monday to Saturday, from 10.00am to 12.00, for free-of-cost checking of children. Talking to the media representatives, Salman said the provision of medical facilities to the people was the the government’s foremost responsibility.
