LAHORE - Police and doctors say the traumatised girl is unable to record statements.
However, a source in police said: “Investigators visited the ICU Saturday evening and recorded her statement with the help of her parents and doctors. The beasts stuffed a piece of cloth into her mouth and threatened to set her ablaze.”
Investigators say they were working on “every aspect” and were confident the savages would soon be brought to justice. “We are investigating all angles. The victim’s father is a government employee living in densely-populated Mughalpura. There is a strong possibility that the attacker could be locals. We are randomly questioning people and are hopeful of carrying out arrests soon,” Lahore DIG (Operations) Muhammad Tahir Rai told The Nation.
According to sources, the lawmen arrested seven people, including three teens, in connection with butchering incident. Though one of them was identified as 18-year-old Imran, police denied the arrests.
“The suspects are neither identified nor arrested. There is no truth in such stories,” CIA SP Muhammad Omar Virk said. The youngest of nine siblings was playing outside her house at Ghousia Colony in Mughalpura on Friday evening when she went missing.
Rejecting the “doing-well” report submitted by the Punjab chief secretary and IGP, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ordered the top provincial cop to cage the beasts immediately. The prime minister regretted that the savages have been on the loose hours after the savagery and ordered stepped up hunt for the faunas. He directed the lawmen to take steps to avert such incidents.
Similarly, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed the CCPO to bring culprits to justice. According to a handout, the chief minister was in constant contact with the top cops though he was ill. He pledged stern punishment to the beasts, added the handout.
PML-N lawmaker Hamza Shahbaz also visited the hospital and talked to the media, pledging that the culprits would be brought to justice at all costs.
“The incident has brought shame on the nation, Sumbal is the daughter of the nation and her suffering is being felt everywhere. It was our common responsibility to fight such evils.”
