100 ETPB employees sacked sans salary

LAHORE - The Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) management has dismissed over 100 daily wages employees without paying them two months’ salary, said ETPB sources on Thursday.
All the employees are teachers and were hired by former ETPB chairman Syed Asif Hashmi. The ETPB spokesman said that these employees were recruited for 89 days and their contract was renewed after every three months. These employees had staged a demonstration outside the Lahore Press Club before Eid demanding their three months salaries.
After the protest, the management paid them one month salary and promised for two months salaries after Eid. But when the employees contacted the office for duty, they were told they have been sacked. An officer on anonymity said these employees were performing duties for the last two years.
An ETPB officer said that a meeting of ETPB board has been convened on Friday (today) to resolve the issue. Among the employees are upper division clerk, lower division clerks, class four employees, sweepers and teachers. An employee who was sacked said that his colleagues have already filed a writ petition in Lahore High Court against this decision and the court sought reply from ETPB over the issue.
