LAHORE - Declaring terrorism the biggest challenge country was facing at the moment, Punjab Governor, Ch. Muhammad Sarwar said a comprehensive strategy with press having a key role to play, was needed for its eradication.
The press, being fourth pillar of the state has a pivotal role to support government’s efforts to curb this menace”, he said while talking addressing a delegation of Press Council of International Affairs which met him at Governor House, the other day.
Ch Sarwar was of the view that contribution of writers, journalists, scholars and columnists was highly essential to uproot this evil They could be a lending hand to the government in this regard, he added.
The PCIA delegation comprised Mr. Zia Shahid, Chief Editor, Khabrain. Mr. Asad Ullah Ghalib, Mr. Akram Shaheedi, Former Secretary Information, Mr. Azmat Shaikh, Dr. Shafique Jalandhri, Mr. Masroor Kaifi, Mr. Qayum Nizami, Mr. Qudratullah Chaudhary, Mr. Tahir Jameel, Mr. Khalid Mahmood Saleem, Prof. M. Qutab, Syed Tariq Ashraf, Mr. Ammar Chaudhary, and Mr. Mujahid Lahori.
“Whenever the country had been faced with an issue undermining its sovereignty, the erudite class has always deployed their pens as swords and worked to protect their country in this capacity. To this day, it has thus been their national duty to counter the nefarious designs of terrorists”, the governor observed.
He informed the delegation that education was first and foremost in the list of his national priorities. “I plan and hope to provide such means by which one million children will receive basic education each year”, he said, adding that spread of education was the only method by which future of coming generations could be secured.
