LAHORE: The Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign 2013 has been kicked off throughout the province in which 11 million saplings would be planted, said Forests Minister Malik Muhammad Asif Awan while inaugurating the campaign. He planted a sapling in Jalo Park.
Forests Secretary Maj (r) Shahnawaz Badar, Chief Conservator Rana Muhammad Shabir, officers concerned, NGO representatives and a large number of people were present on the occasion. Malik Asif Awan said all the officials and people should play their role during this campaign to improve the environment. He said all ministers, assembly members, administration and all departments will take active part in the campaign. Provincial minister told that 246 sale points have been set up throughout the province from where saplings can be obtained. He said awareness of tree plantation would be created among the people through media and other sources. He said seminars, workshops and drives would be arranged in the province. Maj Shahnawaz Badar stressed upon proper utilising of existing resources. He said that proper looking after of the saplings planted during the campaign is utmost essential.–Our Staff Reporter
