LAHORE - A District and Sessions Court on Tuesday acquitted PPP leader and former Punjab MPA Amina Buttar in dual nationality case.
Amina Buttar had filed an acquittal application through her counsel Advocate Rashid Lodhi. She said there was no option available in the form provided by Election Commission of Pakistan wherein she could write about her nationality. She told the judge that she was a law-abiding citizen. She requested the court to acquit her in the case.
The ECP, on other hand, opposed the petitioner’s arguments and said the SC had declared her disqualified for having dual nationality and directed the authorities concerned to take action against her. The commission requested the court to take action against her for violating Article 62, 63 of the Constitution.
After hearing arguments, Additional District and Sessions Judge Tariq Iftikhar acquitted Amina Butter in the case.
LHC NULLIFIES HAJ
QUOTA
The Lahore High Court on Tuesday nullified the allocation of Haj quota of 15,000 pilgrims for private tour operators, and directed the Ministry of Religious Affairs to allocate the same purely on merit.
Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan, who was hearing the case, disposed off the petitions filed by number of newly-registered Haj tour operators. They had challenged Haj Policy 2014 and what they said the ‘unfair’ allocation of quota among private tour operators.
The petitioners’ counsel said that neither the government constituted a committee for Haj Policy 2014 as was directed by the Supreme Court nor it uploaded any detail of the policy on the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ website. 
The Haj quota of 15,000 was allocated to private tour operators on the basis of personal liking and disliking, they alleged adding that most of the private tour operators were defaulters and blacklisted. The petitioners appealed to the court to set aside the impugned allocation of the Haj quota.
After hearing the arguments of both sides, Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan set aside the quota, directing the ministry to allocate quota purely on merit and equally among all new and old private tour operators.
LHC MOVED AGAINST PAKISTAN PROTECTION ACT
The Lahore High Court, through a writ petition on Tuesday, was moved against the Pakistan Protection Act (PPA) on the grounds that it was in contravention with the provisions of the Constitution of Pakistan and basic fundamental rights of the citizens.
A lawyer-petitioner advocate Ishtiaq Chaudhry filed the petition and submitted that Pakistan Protection Act was against the provisions of the Constitution as well as against the fundamental rights of the citizens. He said it was a black law which permitted law enforcement agencies to shoot any suspect on the spot.
The petitioner said that no citizen could be deprived of his basic and fundamental rights, so the said Act being contrary to the Constitution of Pakistan did not deserve to be implemented. He prayed the court to set aside the said Act in the best interest of justice.
