Gilani deserves deterrent punishment for contempt: JI chief

Ameer Jamaat e Islami, Syed Munawar Hasan has impressed upon the Supreme Court to order Prime Minister Gilani's arrest for contempt and award him a punishment so that no body can dare to ridicule the constitution and the judiciary in future. Talking to the media after inaugurating the newly built Masjid e Qartaba at G.T. Road in Gujrat on Friday, he charged that Prime Minister's contemptuous remarks against the apex court were in line with the US agenda to create anarchy in the country. Stressing that the Supreme Court should not hesitate in establishing the supremacy of the constitution, he said prime minister deserves more than simple imprisonment sentence. Syed Munawar Hasan also urged the apex court to decide the memogate case without any delay so that the truth come to light, without taking into consideration that a high profile personality was involved in it. He said, the PPP has always been at war with the constitutional institutions aimed at weakening them, adding he said, "had the Supreme Court punished couple of ministers for contempt at the very beginning, things would not have gone to such an extent". JI leader urged the nation to foil the US designs to breakaway Balochistan by demonstrating complete solidarity with the people of Balochistan. He regretted that the rulers were not taking the Balochsitan issue seriously.
