'N showering gunny bags on its cronies: 'Q

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE The Punjab government was providing gunny bags for its cronies in abundance and depriving the deserving farmers of their rights, Senior Federal Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi alleged on Sunday. He levelled these allegations while talking to various party delegations hailing from rural areas at his residence. He claimed that the provincial government had been carrying out anti-farmers policies for the last three years as what he believed the farmers did voted for them. He further claimed that the farmers had become rolling stones to sell wheat during this season as the government was neither providing them with sufficient gunny bags nor giving them reasonable price for their production. Pervaiz, who is also senior leader of the PML-Q, maintained that the cronies of the provincial government were compelling the farmers to sell their wheat at Rs 700 to 800 per 40kg and the same wheat was being purchased by the Food Department from the stated agents at Rs 950 per 40 kg, causing the farmers a loss of billions of rupees.
