LAHORE - Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that the Punjab government is implementing a comprehensive programme of providing the masses modern, comfortable, safe and inexpensive transport facilities.
The CM said this while presiding over a high-level meeting regarding the infrastructure and extension of metro bus service project here Thursday. Lahore Transport Company Chairman Kh. Ahmed Hassaan, the Planning & Development chairman, Transport secretary, Metro Bus Authority MD and other officials concerned attended the meeting.
The CM said that modern infrastructure is vital for speedy development, and in view of the fact, the Punjab government is utilising billions of rupees on the improvement of infrastructure. He said that the metro bus service is a glorious project of the Punjab government which has given new identity to the city. He said that after the record success of the service in Lahore, the project is also being started in Rawalpindi. He said that scope of the project is being further expanded due to rising popularity of the metro bus service.
He said the New Azadi Chowk and New Circular Road projects would be completed within three months with a cost of Rs5.35 billion. Under the New Azadi Chowk project, a flyover and an elevated roundabout are being expeditiously constructed to benefit 0.2 million vehicles for smooth trafficking on daily basis.
Similarly, he said, a roundabout and two U-turns would be constructed, under the New Circular Road project, improving the traffic flow through signal-free crossing on this road. He said that the New Circular Road project would help save precious time of the masses. He said that the people could face problems for a short time, but would get a permanent relief the projects were completed.
CM CONDEMNS PESHAWAR BLAST: Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the bomb blast near the Tableeghi Markaz in Peshawar.
The Chief Minister, while expressing his sorrow and grief over the loss of precious human lives as a result of the bomb blast, said that the enemies of peace want to destabilise the country.
He said that people will have to foil the nefarious designs of the enemies with the power of unity. The Chief Minister also prayed or early recovery of the injured persons.
