Naheed doubtful of rulers' sincerity

LAHORE-Naheed Khan, former Political Secretary to Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto on Sunday cast aspersions on rulers' intentions to arrest and punish BBs killers. Talking to the media at the residence of a PPP worker and BBs guard, Saleem Khan at Samanabad where she had gone to condole the death of his spouse, Naheed said people and history would never forgive the rulers if the assassins of Benazir Bhutto were not punished. Her spouse, Dr. Safdar Abbasi also accompanied her. She said Prime Minister Gilani who became PM due to sacrifice of Benazir Bhutto, should have shown seriousness to arrest the killers. She said PM should have constituted an investigation team having public acceptance and credibility to probe into the murder case. She said she would be happy if the government started its investigation by recording her statement. She also criticized consultation process within the PPP, saying no one knew where the decisions were being made. Naheed said that party should accept people having different opinion within its fold. She said partys central Executive Committee (CEC) had become redundant, as core committee of the party mostly comprising people in the government was taking important decisions. Speaking on the occasion, Safdar Abbasi said that government should comply with court orders on NRO and write letter to the Swiss court to open cases against President Zardari. About governments reluctance to restore old status of Larkana, Abbasi wondered why the government could not take any decision independent of the MQM. He said PPP did not accept the division of Hayderabad and Larkana by former dictator Pervez Musharraf, and had taken the stance to restore their original status. Meanwhile, talking to The Nation, Saleem Khan, who lost his legs in Liaqatbagh attack in which BB was killed, said that he had not yet received the financial assistance announced by Prime Minister Gilani amounting to 0.2 million rupees and a residential plot.
