LAHORE: District Courts Judicial Magistrate extended four-day physical remand of Umer Hayat to Shahdra Police, an accused of throwing his infant daughter into river Ravi here on Monday.
As proceeding started Shahdra police produced the accused Rickshaw Driver Umar Hayat before the magisterial court seeking extension in his physical remand on plea that the dead body of the deceased girl was not recovered from the river yet. The court extended his physical remand for four days and handed him over to police with directions to produce him again on next date of hearing fixed as September 20 as well as to produce investigation report.
Shahdra police arrested Umar Hayat, resident of Salamatpura, Baghbanpura, and registered an FIR against him under Section 302 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of his wife, Sumera.
According to FIR’s content, Sumera stated four days back, her husband planned a picnic at the Ravi. During the picnic, he threw one of his daughters, Zainab, into the river and started crying that she got lost. However, Sumera felt that there was something fishy and she filed a complaint with the Shahdara police station alleging that Umar had killed her daughter by throwing her into the river Ravi. She said he was keen to have a son which is why he had done such a thing.
Police said Umar denied the allegations, saying that his daughter had slipped into the river. But later, Umar confessed his crime and also confessed his scuffles with his wife for not having a son.–Staff Reporter
