Shahbaz pledges to end deprivations of Cholistan

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif has said that deprivations of Cholistan people will be immediately redressed and no one will be allowed to usurp their rights. According to an official handout, the CM stated this while addressing a big public gathering at historic fort Drawer at Cholistan situated about one hundred kilometer away from Bahawalpur on Wednesday. He also announced awarding of proprietary rights to the residents of all Katchi Abadis of Cholistan, immediate provision of 200-250 cusecs irrigation water for meeting the shortage of canal water and setting up of a Cadet College in Cholistan besides provision of Rs 300 million for the promotion of livestock in Cholistan. He also declared setting up of meat and milk processing plants on behalf of Punjab government. Shahbaz said that prosperity of the dwellers of Cholistan was his mission therefore a large number of development projects would be implemented. He said that the biggest problem of Cholistani people was shortage of canal water and a mega project was being evolved for this purpose. However, 200-250 cusecs irrigation water would be immediately provided to overcome this shortage, he added. The CM said that government was paying special attention to provide health facilities throughout the province and mobile dispensaries would be set up for the provision of treatment facilities to the Cholistanis. He directed MD Cholistan Development Authority to provide a piece of land for the establishment of Cadet College in Cholistan. He said that opportunities of higher education would be provided to Cholistani boys and girls in urban educational institutions where they will be provided free education and accommodation. Earlier, during briefing given by Managing Director Cholistan Development Authority, Ikramullah Khan, the chief minister also directed to constitute a special taskforce for maintaining natural beauty of Cholistan and conservation of Cholistani plants. He said that Cholistan Development Authority would be empowered so that it could complete all its projects independently. He said that as a pilot project, a cooperative forum would be formed and linked to a meat processing value and addition plant and Punjab government will itself invest in the project and after processing of meat and milk on this plant the same will be exported to Abu Dhabi, Dubai and other Arab countries. He said that after the success of this experiment, foreign investors and companies would be motivated to set up similar big plants and a share would be allocated for the Cholistanis in these projects. The chief minister also invited prominent businessman of poultry sector, accompanying him in his visit, to invest in Cholistan. The chief minister said on the occasion that he would again visit Cholistan after 2-3 months to review implementation of his announcement being made for the development of Cholistan. Provincial Minister for Special Education, Malik Muhammad Iqbal Chunhar, Members of National and Provincial Assemblies, Ch Saood Majeed, Mian Abdul Sattar, Mohtarma Zeb Jaffer, Haji Zulfiqar Ali, Mumtaz Ahmad Jajja, Chairman Taskforce, Samiullah Chaudhry and Chairman Board of Management, Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, Mian Aqueelur Rehman were also present on the occasion.
