LAHORE – Setting up health volunteer force on the pattern of Thailand and establishment of bureau of vector born diseases for the effective control is necessary for the eradication of dengue. Punjab Chief Minister has issued instructions to the departments concerned for undertaking preventive measures expeditiously so that the situation like the last year could be averted.
Chairing a meeting of central emergency response committee at the Civil Secretariat on Tuesday, Vice Chairman Dengue Control Steering Committee Kh Salman Rafique said that vector surveillance and vector response activities should be ensured in all districts for elimination of dengue.
Kh Salman Rafique stressed upon the need of launching a vigorous media campaign for promoting public awareness in this regard.
Secretary Health informed that vector surveillance teams conducted survey of 5,790 places, 10,926 containers and 22,605 houses from January 1 to January 15 in Lahore and larva of dengue was found only at five places and eight houses. He further said that larvae surveillance and response work has also been started in Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Pakpattan, Khanewal, Rawalpindi and Multan.
