LAHORE - Lady doctors at the Gynecological emergency of Lahore General Hospital allegedly thrashed and forced a pregnant woman to leave on the pretext of shortage of operation tables in the wee hours on Wednesday.
After refusal from the on duty DMS to address the issue due to lack of facilities, the family took the lady to the Services Hospital.
Hafsa, 25, was recommended C-Section by the gyne doctors at LGH five hours before the incident due to complications of the expected baby.
The family claimed that when Hafsa was ready for delivery case, a lady doctor - Dr Nadia - visited the labour room and asked attendants of three pregnant women including Hafsa’s to take them to any private health facility saying that the labour room lacked operation tables.
The family further alleged that Dr Nadia turned hostile when Hafsa informed her that she had visited the LGH for regular check during nine month of pregnancy period and no doctor of any other hospital will entertain her in this condition and odd time.
“We got immensely shocked when Dr Nadia started abusing my wife in the presence of my family and other visitors”, Hafsa’s Husband Hafiz Shahzad said. He added that some minutes later the doctor pushed his wife outside the labour room.
He alleged that the doctor treated two other pregnant women in the same manner and asked their attendants to take them to any other hospital for delivery.
“My wife suffered mental shock and she was forced to stay outside the labor room for four hours without treatment”, he said. He said when he approached night shift DMS Dr Shahid, he also refused to address the issue on the same ground.
He also refused to take application against the inhuman attitude of the on-duty doctor, Shahzad said.
“I took my wife to the Service Hospital in serious condition minutes before Sehri time”, he said adding that the doctors at the gyne emergency too refused to attend the patient.
He said the doctors at the Services Hospital were of the view that the patient got complete treatment for nine month from the doctors of LGH and they knew well the medical history of the patient. Hafiz Shahzad said the doctors further informed him that the baby had developed health complications due to delay in the C-Section.
“I then brought the matter to the knowledge of Services Hospital Medical Superintendent who directed the on-duty doctors to admit the patient”, Hafiz Shahzad said. He demanded an inquiry into this grave incident.
