LAHORE - Tens of thousands of people attended day two of the second phase of Raiwind Tableeghi Ijtema on Friday. The Friday prayer was offered with devotion by the participants who were mostly from the City. A delegation from Iran participated for the first time. Haji Abdul Wahab addressed the congregation while Maulana Mohammad Ibrahim led the prayers. Maulana Tariq Jamil spoke about the history and mission of the tableeghi jamaat. He said that Muslims would continue to suffer unless they start the tableeghi mission on the footprints of the Prophet (PBUH). He said those who were away from the 'Deen' could not understand the voice of their conscience and therefore could be overpowered by the non-believers. He said people involved in bomb blasts and suicide attacks were not sincere to Islam. They were incomplete Muslims. He said Dawah and tableegh were the essence of Islam. Maulana Sa'ad, Maulana Arshad, Maulana Ahmad Lat and Maulana Jamshed were amongst others who addressed the congregation. The tableeghi moot was marred by traffic mismanagement. The participants were overwhelmed by dust, smoke and the high prices and substandard quality of the food. Govt working on holistic agenda to tackle issues: Raja Riaz Senior Minister Punjab Raja Riaz Ahmad has said that the government is working on a holistic agenda to tackle the issues of power load shedding, terrorism, unemployment and poverty, because public welfare is the essence of the democracy. He said the government is working to deliver the country from the terrorist threat and the economic crisis, and the President's recent visit to China is a pivotal step which will help stabilize our economy and benefit the country, according to a handout. Addressing a party meeting of Punjab district presidents, general secretaries and information secretaries at his residence here Friday. He assured that the government will solve their genuine problems on priority, adding that democracy is the result of tireless efforts by political workers. He asserted that 'jiala' PPP activists are the real asset and strength of the party, and the vanguards of democracy in the country. The minister announced that PPP district bodies' meeting will now be held every month so that the problems of party workers and the party administrative infrastructure more proactive. He said that in the next phase, forms of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) will also be distributed among workers, ticket holders and office bearers. Earlier, acting PPP president Punjab, Ch Ghulam Abbas and other office bearers also addressed the gathering and presented proposals for strengthening the party in the province. Provincial Minister Ashraf Khan Sohna, PPP Lahore president Haji Azizur Rehman Chan, media advisor Zakariya Butt and a number of MPAs attended the meeting.
