IGP ordered to issue seniority list of DSPs


LAHORE – The Lahore High Court Chief Justice on Wednesday directed the Inspector General of Police Punjab to circulate the seniority list of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) prepared on the orders of the Supreme Court for their promotions.
The IGP flanked by his legal team appeared before Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, who was hearing contempt petitions Inspector Muhmmad Sarwar and some DSPs seeking promotion of their services.
The IG informed the court that some DSPs had challenged the seniority list due to which it could not be circulate.
The CJ directed the IG to follow the orders of the high court and apex court in their letter and spirits, and circulate the seniority list.
“He can approach the service tribunal if any police officer has objections on the seniority list after its circulation,” the CJ noted directing IG to submit the compliance report till April 23.
The petitioners were of the view that they had been deprived from the promotion of their services despite the orders of the Supreme Court.
Tax bar delegation calls on LHC CJ: The Lahore High Court Chief Justice has said that best people will be inducted at all tiers of provincial judiciary and there will be no compromise on this as they have determined to deliver according to the high hopes pinned by the people who are true stakeholders of the judicial system.
CJ Sheikh Azmat Saeed was talking to a 50-member delegation of Lahore Tax Bar Association (LTBA) including 20 former presidents as well as President and Secretary of Pakistan Tax Bar Association.
Responding to demand of elevation of tax professionals to the bench, the Chief Justice said that men of integrity and enjoying sound competency would be chosen for the slot in the interest of public at large.
He said that rather a comprehensive strategy had been evolved and classification, identification and bundling of all tax related cases had been completed within a short span of three months. There were about five thousand such files which had been categorized as per identical questions of law and we intend to dispose dozens of cases having similar proposition of law with a single stroke, the CJ said.
The delegation assured full cooperation with the judiciary for deciding tax references. It also requested for organising programmes and seminars about tax laws in Punjab Judicial Academy. Patron LTBA, Zia Haider Rizvi, President Ch. Zahid Attique, Vice President Amir Shehzad, General Secretary Farhan Shehzad, Finance Secretary Naghmana Shehzadi and Joint Secretary LTBA Naeem Khan were also present on the occasion.
