Posthumous awards for martyred firefighters

LAHORE Posthumous aw-ards were given for four firefighters of the Punjab Emergency Services (Rescue 1122) and one employee of the City District Govt Rawalpindi who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty in Gakhar Plaza, Rawalpindi. Tamgha-e-Shujaat were given for Kashif, Muhammad Idrees, Shafqat Hussain, Moosa and Sajjad Khurshid. In a communiqu issued here Wednesday, Rescue 1122 Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer said that Kashif, Muhammad Idrees, Shafqat Hussain, Moosa and Sajjad Khurshid were the heroes who ran to conduct search and rescue operation in Gakhar Plaza fire. The DG further said that the PES rescuers and firefighters were always ready to save the people at the risk of their lives. He said that we must ensure the compliance with building safety codes and install emergency exit staircase, fire hydrants, smoke detection & fire alarm system with all other building safety codes in our multi-storey and populated buildings in accordance with the with the government rules. Car lifted A Suzuki Mehran car was lifted from Liberty Market here the other day. Sheikh Arshad Manzoor had parked his car outside a departmental store. When after a couple of hours he returned he found his car missing. Liberty Market police have registered a case against unidentified vehicle lifters with no arrest so far. NH&MP being trained on modern lines: DIG Motorway Police is being trained on international standards and according to the modern day requirements. Two fall to death At least two people including a minor girl succumbed to wounds while another person received multiple injuries after they fell off the rooftops of their houses in different localities in the provincial capital on Wednesday. Two-year-old Khadija, a resident of Sector D-1 Township, was playing with other children when she slipped and fell off the roof. She suffered multiple wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced her dead. In another incident, Khurshid Bibi, a resident of Kahna Nau, fell down the stairs and suffered serious injuries. She was shifted to a hospital where she breathed her last. Police concerned handed over the bodies to their heirs after necessary medico-legal formalities. Meanwhile, 35-year-old Zafar Bibi, a resident of Gwalmandi, was busy in cleaning the roof of his house when he suddenly slipped and fell down. His family rushed her to a local hospital where his condition was told to be stable.
