Lahore police attacked, cop killed

LAHORE  - In two separate gun attacks, a police constable was shot dead in front of his son while another cop wounded seriously in the provincial metropolis on Saturday.
Police investigators are yet to ascertain the motives behind the brazen gun attacks on cops. However, police sources say that the involvement of militants could not be ruled out.
According to police, three masked men stopped a policeman at Lal Shah Road near Karol Ghati in Shalimar and opened straight fire on him. Father of six, Muhammad Sarwar, along with his son Muhammad Yasir was on way to the Sabzazar police station to join duty when the gunmen unleased the attack, killing him on the spot. The police later reached the crime scene and moved the body to the morgue for autopsy. Police have also registered a case against unidentified gunmen and are investigating with no arrest made yet.
In another similar attack, three motorcyclists opened fire on the policemen who were on routine patrol near Peer Ronaki graveyard in Shadbagh and escaped instantly.  As a result, a  constable, identified as Naeem Yousaf, sustained serious bullet wounds and was rushed to the Mayo Hospital. The condition of cop was reported to be critical.
